I am Morgan Boss. I write, I play chess badly but for a very long time now, and I walk. The walking began as a way of dealing with a bad back and has turned into the main business of my afternoons: a valley, a hill, an hour and a half, and whatever the weather is doing.
This is a notebook rather than a publication. I write here every fortnight, on a Sunday, and what I put down is whatever I have been thinking about during the week: openings I keep losing to, endgames I do not understand, books I am reading, walks I have taken, the ordinary business of paying attention to things that are usually not worth paying attention to.
None of it is advice. I am not a teacher of chess and I am not a critic, and if you take a position from here you may reasonably assume I am wrong about it. These are personal notes: the record of a person trying to keep a few things in order, which are the reading, the games, and the habit of going outside.
Correspondence is welcome, and I do answer letters, though more slowly than I would like and more slowly than I ought to. Write to [email protected] and I am always glad to hear from somebody who has read the same books.
The opinions on this site are my own.
